In May 2024, the Umbraco team released a major update to the Umbraco Cloud platform, bringing features that promise to significantly improve the flexibility and performance of hosted websites. The main new features of this release are the possibility to upload customized databases and the introduction of dedicated environments.

Upload Customized Databases

One of the great novelties is the feature that allows the upload of customized databases to Umbraco Cloud. With this, users can upload their own Umbraco databases, using the current backup functionality or bringing their own database. This is possible thanks to the introduction of the Point-In-Time Recovery (PITR)  feature on the backups page, which started the process of enabling backups and restore capabilities for sites in Umbraco Cloud.

Dedicated Environments

Another major improvement is the introduction of dedicated environments. You can now isolate the production environment into dedicated resources, while the development and staging environments remain in shared resources. This means that the site in production will have faster loading times, lower latency, and greater security, without impacting the workflow in the development and staging environments.

These updates reflect Umbraco's commitment in providing a more robust, flexible and secure platform for its users, allowing for more efficient site management and optimized performance.
